Tucson VS CR-V Comparison

The Hyundai Tucson and the Honda CR-V are two popular compact SUVs that offer great value for their price. Both vehicles are known for their reliability, fuel efficiency, and spacious interiors. However, when it comes to choosing between the two, there are a few key differences to consider before making a purchase.

Engine Type and Fuel Economy

Let’s start with what powertrain options each vehicle comes with.

The Tucson offers a choice of two engines: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine and a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid engine. The 2.5-liter engine produces 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, while the 1.6-liter hybrid engine produces up to 226 horsepower when using both the electric and gas motor. Both engines offer great fuel economy giving drivers savings at the gas pump.

  • 2.5-Liter Gas – City/Highway/Combined (FWD): 25/32/28
  • 1.6-Liter Hybrid – City/Highway/Combined: 38/38/38

The Honda CR-V also offers a gas and hybrid engine option to its drivers however the CR-V only comes in 4 different trim levels, whereas the Hyundai offers 8 different configurations. The CR-V comes standard with a 4-Cylinder Turbocharger gas Engine producing up to 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. The other engine option is a 4-Cylinder hybrid engine that produces up to 204 horsepower when using the gas and electric motor. The CR-V also offers good fuel economy as well.

  • Gas – City/Highway/Combined (FWD): 28/34/30
  • Hybrid – City/Highway/Combined: 43/36/40

Pricing and Affordability

With today’s economy finding a vehicle you not only like but also can afford can feel challenging. And most shoppers are asking themselves “how much vehicle can I afford?”. At Walser, we make it super easy to apply for financing so you can see how much you are approved for.

Both the Hyundai Tucson and the Honda CR-V offer great value for the number of features you get and the price you pay. However, the 2023 Hyundai Tucson has a starting MSRP of $5,160 less than the 2023 Honda CR-V. The base Tucson starts at just $26,450 whereas the base Honda CR-V starts at $31,610.

Tucson VS CR-V Space Comparison

Interior

The Hyundai Tucson is going to come with 40.1 inches of headroom in the front and 39.5 inches of headroom in the back giving you and your passengers plenty of space to remain comfortable during the duration of your trip.

The Honda CR-V on the other hand only offers 38.2 inches of headroom in both the front and back which is 1.9 and 1.3 inches shorter than the Tucson respectively. This may not seem like a huge difference, but for taller passengers, this can really make a difference.

Headroom is not the only thing to consider when it comes to a comfortable ride. Legroom is also important. Both the Tucson and CR-V offer almost identical specs when it comes to legroom space.

Exterior

Let’s start with the wheelbase of each compact SUV. The Tucson has a wheelbase of 108.8 inches and the CR-V comes with a wheelbase of 106.3 inches. This measures the distance from the front to the rear axle.  While the Tucson comes in 2.5 inches longer in wheelbase it is actually smaller when it comes to overall length. The Tucson comes in with a total length of 182.3 inches where the CR-V is 184.8 inches. This difference may seem insignificant, but it can make a difference if you live somewhere with small parking spaces, or your garage is not extremely large. Having a few additional inches of space may make all the difference.

Warranty

The last thing to consider when purchasing a new vehicle is the warranty it comes with. For most people, their vehicle is the 2nd largest purchase they will make besides their house. So, it is important to make sure your vehicle is protected.

New vehicle warranty is really where Hyundai separates itself from the rest of the market. Every new Hyundai comes with America’s Best Warranty which provides a limited powertrain warranty for up to 10 years and 150,000 miles.

Each new Honda will come with a 5-year or 60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty. This is respectable, but still far short of what Hyundai offers.
