Though recent whisperings have suggested that the Hyundai Genesis and Equus will become part of and independent premium brand, Hyundai Motor Co. has officially ruled out the possible plan due to
substantial risk of cost and possible damage to sibling nameplates. According to Vice Chairman Shin Jong-Woon, "There are no plans for Hyundai to make a separate brand,"1 as stated in an interview at the automaker's South Korean headquarters.
